The Google Summer of Code is back again in 2007, and this time we mean to catch the train and get some new blood flowing into Voyager, by means of student summer projects sponsored by SoC. For this to happen, we must have interesting SoC Ideas that a student could implement, ideally, in 3-months time.

The Google SoC begins accepting mentoring applications on March 5, ending on March 12. To apply, we should have the following list of questions in a nice format to apply to Google, as well as several ideas for students to make proposals for.

Mentoring Organization Application

From the SoC FAQ:

In addition to anything else your organization would like to submit as an application, Google will be ask at least the following questions as part of the application process:

  1. Describe your organization.
  2. Why is your organization applying to participate in GSoC 2007? What do you hope to gain by participating?
  3. Did your organization participate in GSoC 2005 or 2006? If so, please summarize your involvement and the successes and failures of your student projects.

  4. If your organization has not previously participated in GSoC, have you applied in the past? If so, for what year(s)?
    1. We have never applied to participate in GSoC.
  5. Who will your organization administrator be? Please include Google Account information.
  6. What license does your project use?
    1. LGPL/CDDL dual license
  7. What is the URL for your ideas page?

  13. What criteria did you use to select these individuals as mentors? Please be as specific as possible.
  14. What is your plan for dealing with disappearing students?
  15. What is your plan for dealing with disappearing mentors?
  16. What steps will you take to encourage students to interact with your project's community before, during and after the program?
  17. What will you do to ensure that your accepted students stick with the project after GSoC concludes?
